We have been running a scarecrow competition since 2004 in the week leading up to the Fair and this year is no exception. This year’s theme is Magic, Music and Merriment.
We want you to help us make the 2018 Ditchling Fair the best ever and displaying a poster in your window will help to spread the word.
Visit Stalls, have Breakfast, hear the Proclamation, see Ditchling Morris and their guests Knots of May, Ditchling Mummers, run The Jack & Jill Race and enjoy Music and entertainment.
The Procession will also include the Fancy Dress Competition that individuals and small groups can enter. The categories are; Best male under 16, Best female under 16, Best pair under 16, Adult Best Male, Adult Best Female, Best Pair, Walking groups of less than six, Best decorated wheeled non-motorised vehicle and walking groups of more than six.
On The Green from around 1pm. Teas and refreshments in the Barn, Licenced Bar, Harris's Old Tyme Amusements, Stalls, Maypole dancing, Dog Show, Tug Of War and The In-Crowd cash prize quiz.
As part of the 2016 Fair theme of "Kith, Kin and Community" we wanted to change the way we chose our Fair Queen. Instead of the old beauty pageant, we decided to change it to a nomination process - candidates were nominated based on good deeds and as role models for our community.

Base your scarecrow on any people, stories or events that reflect the fair theme, you can have as many scarecrows as you like in one scene.
Scarecrows should be finished, in situ and an official entry form be received by Monday 11th June 2018
Multiple entries per household are permitted but must be entered separately

The Morning Fair starts at around 8.30am in the closed-to-traffic West Street. The Wizard will wake up the village, with the bells of St Margarets acting as our snooze alarm. There will be stalls of food, produce and information available - come and have your Fair-day breakfast in Ditchling's West Street.
The Fair Proclamation will be read by The Rev. David Wallis and the bestowing of the Village Gems.
Ditchling Morris and their guest Side, Knots of May, will entertain you with a variety of energetic dances.

In 1312 King Edward II granted John de Warenne, Lord of the Manor, the right to run a Fair in Ditchling 'in the eve and in the day and in the morrow of St Margaret the Virgin' and thus was to be celebrated on July 20th.
